Swing set!

Over the Easter weekend I undertook construction of a swing set for Huck and his upcoming brother. We figured we could build a better one for what they cost from Walmart, Costco, Canadian Tire, etc. and avoid having to wonder about any dubious chemicals used to treat the wood. For that reason we elected to go with cedar instead of the pressure treated that most pre-fab sets used.

We found some plans online.

The cost of doing it with cedar vs pressure treated effectively doubles the cost of lumber which tipped in at $169 after tax.

After a run out this morning to get some swings and chain to hang them with, it’s now 100% operational.

Trip to Wheeler’s Sugar Bush

In Richmond it was a grey day, so we thought we’d hop in the car and drive up to Wheeler’s sugar bush. Up the valley, the weather was great. 17 celsius and the sun came out. Here’s a few pics from the excursion.

Apple car

This week Huck invented a new game: “Apple Car”.

He loves Apples, and has for a while. As soon as he had enough teeth he wanted to eat them himself, so we’ve let him with a good amount of supervision. To him they’re ball-like, he can bite into them and when he’s done he can fire them across the room.

This week he started putting them into his toys and playing with them like little dudes. It started with one of his toy cars. He made a game of pushing the car (containing an Apple) back and forth with me. When the apple would fall out he would take a bite and put it back in. We played that for at least half an hour — in baby time that is like a day.

On Thursday and Friday he stepped up the game while I was at work. Here’s a pictorial of his apple friends driving around that Katherine shot with her iPhone.
